On October 5, 2022, the Boston City Council adopted a resolution to modify the title of Gourdin Memorial Park so that it will be known as the General Edward O. Gourdin African American Veterans Memorial Park. The resolution was sponsored by Councilor Murphy, who chairs the Council’s Veterans Committee, and District Councilor Fernandez-Anderson, with other members subsequently joining as co-sponsors.
